Solar panels generate electricity in DC (Direct Current).

• A DC solar pump uses a motor designed to run directly on that DC power, meaning the energy flows straight from the panels (often through a simple controller) to the pump.
• An AC solar pump uses a standard AC electric motor. Because solar panels produce DC power, the system requires a Solar Pump Inverter (or Variable Frequency Drive - VFD) to convert the DC power into AC power before it reaches the pump.

DC Solar Pumps: Efficiency in Simplicity

DC pumps are highly efficient because there is no power lost in converting the electricity from DC to AC.

The Advantages:

• High Efficiency: They use less power to move the same amount of water, making the most out of every ray of sunlight.
• Simplicity: Fewer components mean fewer things that can break down in remote locations.

The Advantages:

• Raw Power for Deep Extraction: Standard AC submersible motors are incredibly robust and available in very high horsepower configurations. If you are pushing water up from hundreds of meters deep to supply a large rural town, an AC submersible pump is usually required.
